Announcing the Winners of our 2018-2019 Photo Contest!

Posted on: March 18th, 2019

Due to the top-notch quality of the entries, this year’s Calgary & Kananaskis Photo Contest was the toughest to judge yet! The race was so tight that we even had to call in extra judges. We’re pleased to announce the following winners of our 6th Annual Reader Photo Contest.

Haley Kolodychuk is the Grand Prize Winner for her photo “Young Coyote at Nose Hill Park.” She gets a $500 gift certificate compliments of The Black Diamond Gallery. When Haley received the news she wrote, “Thank you so much – this is such an honor!” She explained that she had never entered a photo contest before, and she was very excited and in a little shock at the news that she won. We’re glad that she decided to enter!

Congratulations to Christy Turner for winning the Silver Prize in the Judges Category with the photo “Fat Biking in the Kananaskis.” Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino has generously donated a 1 night stay as a prize. A hot buffet dinner for two people is included in the getaway package!

We also had a couple entries that were too good to not be acknowledged. The first is “A Cool Dip” by Tony LePrieur. We gave him an Honourable Mention for this beautiful wildlife photo, and he also entered some other stunning animal shots as well. His prize is two Adult Daily Lift Tickets to Sunshine Village for a spring ski trip.

Our other Honourable Mention goes to “Mount Yamnuska,” submitted by Hakan Temucin. We’re also sending Hakan is two Adult Daily Lift Tickets to Sunshine Village for a spring ski trip (each worth $114). Our judges also liked “Residents of Calgary,” which was another photo Hakan submitted.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Calgary and Kananaskis Photo Contest. We look forward to sharing the details of our next photo contest with you on the Experience Travel Guides website later this spring!

Winners of Our 2017-2018 Calgary’s Parks ‘n’ Paths Photo Contest

Posted on: May 30th, 2018

Congratulations to the winners of our 2017-2018 Calgary’s Parks ‘n’ Paths Photo Contest! We received some great entries depicting the quiet natural areas and the vibrant urban settings found in Calgary’s parks and along the city’s paths.

Our judges chose “Sunset Gold – Bankside Fishcreek” as the first place winner. This photo was taken by Moe Haimour and depicts two stately trees silhouetted by a golden sunset. The photo was taken near the path running through Bankside Park. We’ve awarded Moe a $500 gift certificate to The Camera Store!

Second place in the judges category goes to Ronnie Chua’s picture “Peaceful Night.” This vivid photo is of the Reconciliation Bridge on the Calgary’s Bow River Pathway, and it shows the beauty of Calgary at night. Ronnie’s prize is 2 Night Getaway to Kananaskis Country (with an estimated retail value of $250) that includes:

  • 2 nights at the Nakoda Resort
  • voucher for buffet dinner for 2 people, and
  • continental breakfast each morning

An honourable mention goes to “November Tonal,” taken by Luke Scanlon. This black and white photo of a dock has a misty quality. It captures the longing we experience in November for warmer weather and summer fun.

Another honourable mention goes to “Supper is Ready.” Photographer Tony LePrieur took a picture of an American mink, one of the many species residing in Fish Creek Park. And Tony happened to snap the picture as the mink was on its way to supper!

Thank you to all who entered our 5th annual Reader Photo Contest! Watch for details on our 2018-2019 photo contest on our Experience Travel Guides website.
